I left Triacastela this morning at six. I took the long way through Samos, which is where the monastery is located. I’m really glad that I walked this way. Absolutely beautiful little town situated down in the valley with the river.
The monastery is huge, and from what I can understand there’s only about 15 monks left there.
It was a really nice hike through the countryside along the creek. I met Rita today, she is from Estonia. We talked about the ridiculous habit of worry. And how worry is praying for things that you don’t want.
I'm sitting in a pretty big fancy hotel right now and it is Steve’s birthday. He turned 75 and I got him a Camino hat and a Steve license plate for the Camino.
We are in Sarria, that place where a lot of people fly into just to walk the last hundred kilometers to get there Camino de Santiago certificate. From what I understand, those people can get their credential, but they have to get at least two stamps in their credential passport per day. The pilgrim office here took a look at my passport and realized I started and Saint Jean, the beginning of the Camino French way, and said no problem and smiled.
Tomorrow we start our walk with a lot of other people that are making that shorter journey, but it will be nice to have more people during the final legs to chat with, and talk about why they are here.
